Face/Brow Lift
A facelift is a surgical procedure used to improve visible signs of aging on the face and neck. As individuals age, the skin and muscles of the face begin to lose tone. The facelift cannot stop the process of aging. It can improve the most visible signs of aging by tightening deeper structures, re-draping the skin of the face and neck, and removing selected areas of fat. A facelift can be performed alone, or in conjunction with other procedures, such as a browlift, liposuction, eyelid surgery, or nasal surgery.
Any one or combinations of the following conditions may indicate that you are a good candidate for facelift surgery:
- A deep line, or fold, running from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth.
- Jowls, or loss of a well-defined jawline associated with youthfulness.
- Deep wrinkles in the cheeks and sagging of the “highlight” areas of the cheekbones.
- Loose skin, wrinkles, vertical “cords” or excess fatty tissue in the neck.
A facelift can improve all of these problems. It cannot, however, correct conditions such as sagging eyebrows, excess skin and fatty deposits in the upper and lower eyelids, or wrinkles around the mouth. Your plastic surgeon can provide further information if you have an interest in other procedures to treat these areas.
Facelift surgery is individualized for each patient. The best candidates for facelift surgery have a face and neck line that has begun to sag, but whose skin has elasticity and whose bony structure is well defined. Facial rejuvenation or facelift surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures today in the world of cosmetic plastic surgery. Facelift surgery is recognized worldwide by nearly all civilized cultures as a tool to turn back the hands of time and delay the appearance of aging. Facelift surgery can help change the appearance of a person, who wants their outer look to match the way they feel inside. When facelift is approached at all levels, dramatic results can occur. “Attention to the details” improves the chances that a quality, long lasting result will occur. Specifically addressing a person’s skin care, detrimental behaviors (i.e. sun exposure, tobacco smoke) and their facial symmetry helps to influence the overall treatment plan and the final result. Each person’s care is customized to achieve his or her goals.
The results of your facelift may be dramatic or subtle, depending on how you look before surgery as well as the specific goals that you and your plastic surgeon have established. Since the healing process is gradual, you should expect to wait at least several weeks for an accurate picture of your “new look.” Additional minor changes, or settling, may occur over several months. Because the aging process continues all patients undergoing facelift surgery must consider the possibility of future revision surgery or “tucks” in the future. No surgical procedure can be expected to last forever.
Forehead Lift & Eyebrow Lift
A forehead lift is often performed to treat conditions associated with aging of the upper face. While many of our patients have forehead lifts performed to treat conditions associated with aging, the best time to do this procedure is when the forehead lift is performed in conjunction with facelift or eyelid surgery, in order to achieve a more harmonious and complete facial rejuvenation.
Any one or combination of the following conditions may indicate that you are a good candidate for a forehead lift:
- Sagging or low position of the eyebrows, creating a tired or sad appearance
- Deep horizontal creases across the forehead
- Frown lines, or furrows, between the eyebrows and sometimes across the top of the nose
Adults who have a low brow or who have deep frown lines due to stress or hyperactivity of facial muscles may benefit from this procedure. If you have noted that low eyebrow position contributes to a sad or tired appearance you can benefit from the forehead lift. A forehead lift restores the position of the eyebrow and improves any frown lines in your forehead. The forehead lift can be safely performed at the same time as a facelift which removes excess skin and tightens muscles in the mid and lower face. If you have significant skin overhanging the upper eyelids, or puffy bags beneath your eyes, eyelid surgery may be recommended in addition to a forehead lift. Forehead lift can be performed using several techniques. The most common method in our practice is by using a skin incision at the hairline. At this location the incision becomes practically invisible after it has healed and the results are highly satisfactory. We employ the endoscope in a certain subset of patients who are judged to be good candidates for minimally invasive forehead lift. The mini-incision forehead lift is another way to accomplish beautiful results while minimizing the recovery period. We will work hard to make your surgery as personal as possible. We tailor the surgical plan for rejuvenation of your upper face to the individual needs and desires of each patient. The goal of our entire staff is to make your cosmetic surgery experience easy and comfortable and to provide you with the best results achievable.
